Glycine

Founded by Eugène Meylan in 1914, Glycine produced  watches at a factory in Bienne, Switzerland. Glycine began producing spcialty ladies watches with precise, small movements in  cases of gold and platinum dressed with diamonds and precious stones.

In 1931 Glycine created an automaticmovement based on the Hardwood 180 degree "Bumper" which had a repair feature providing the watch maker the ability to remove the automatic prortion of the watch without disabling the movement.

In 1952 Glycine introduced the VACUUM chronometers, which were  touted foer their resistance to water and shock.

In 1953, Glycine introduced the most famous oof all Glycine watches:  the AIRMAN. The AIRMAN was a 24 hour watch favored by both military and commercial pilots and was the choice of watches by many U.S. Air Force pilots during the Vietnam War.

Glycine still makes several variants of the Airman  including the Incursore, Combat, and Lagunare series.

First 180 Automatic

The first self-winding wristwatch was invented in 1923 by a watch repairer from the Isle of Man named John Harwood.

The Harwood system used a pivoting weight which wound the mainspring as  the wearer moved his wrist. The draw back was that the ratchet mechanism only wound the mainspring when moving in one direction and  it did not rotate a full 360°.

This meant that the weight, swinging at app: 180 degrees,   would have to have a "bumper" to hit on its way back and forth.

Soon the constant banging of the weight began to cause premature failure, so springs were added as a means of shock absorbing.

This constant BUMPING would become the trade name "Bumper Automatic and this movement was utilized up into the 1950's .

First 360 Automatic

In 1930, Rolex, beginning with the basic Hardwood Core, improved upon the Hardwood by producing the worlds first 360 degree bi-directional automatic movement. The Pendlum would rotate 360 degrees. They patented this design and locked out all other watch makers.

THE EBAUCHE

Ebauches SA was been formed in 1926 in Neuchatel as a holding company that brought together Switzerland's largest ebauche firms, which   included Valjoux S.A., ETA S.A.,Venus S.A. and  Felsa S.A.,

An Ebauche firm produced  a jeweled watch movement, without its regulating organs, mainspring, dial, or hands and sold them to watch companies world wide. Companies,   from Alpina and Brietling, tgo Omega and Zenith, all purchased ebauches.

In addition to the ebauche, these firms, including FELSA, also produced complete movements and branded them for the same watch companies.

In 1942, FELSA patented the BIDYNATOR, an automatic movement   what would become the FIRST INDEPENDANTLY DESIGNED AND THE  most amazing, beautiful, compact, durable 360 degree Bi-directional - Dual Winding automatic movement in the world.

In fact, just about EVERY automatic movement that would be developed after the Bidynator would be developed upon the Bidynator.

The Bidynator could be found in many exclusive major vintage watch brands from 1940's through the 1960s. From Brietling to Glycine, the Bidynator, in one form or another, was offered as the most durable, revolutionary and beautiful automatic movement.

FREEMASON

Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around six million, including approximately 150,000 in Scotland and Ireland, over a quarter of a million under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England and just under two million in the United States.

The fraternity is administratively organised into independent Grand Lodges or sometimes Orients, each of which governs its own jurisdiction, which consists of subordinate (or constituent) Lodges. The various Grand Lodges recognise each other, or not, based upon adherence to landmarks (a Grand Lodge will usually deem other Grand Lodges who share common landmarks to be regular, and those that do not to be "irregular" or "clandestine").

There are also appendant bodies, which are organisations related to the main branch of Freemasonry, but with their own independent administration.

Freemasonry uses the metaphors of operative stonemasons' tools and implements, against the allegorical backdrop of the building of King Solomon's Temple, to convey what has been described by both Masons and critics as "a system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols
