HELBROS WWII HISTORY

THE HELBROS STORY

In 1913, when only the relatively well-to-do could afford a timepiece, Helbros was created by the Helbein Brothers. The middle class Swiss German watchmakers goal was to manufacture quality timepieces affordable to the working public. Throughout the 20's and 30's, Helbros became a household name and by the 40's and WWII,  Helbros was supplying watches to American Forces and a major promoter of the War Bond efforts of the United States.

THE PILOTS CHRONOGRAPH

The above box insert was placed in wood boxes for what was then an amazing Pilots Chronograph. Helbros created the Landeron based Pilots Chronograph using the same movement as a host of Major High End watch brands all competing for share of the War related watch business. Baume et Mercier, Breitling, Movado,  Leonidas and Titus were but a handful of brands manufacturing chronographs, but Helbros was the winner when it came to marketing- as the above box insert demonstrates.

MEPA
In 1944 and 45, Helbros began contracting MEPA Watch Co to assemble the Helbros Chronograph, and, once again, other watch Brands began following suite. The MEPA name and Landeron Chronograph movement can be found in many watch brands including Jerrel, Breitling, Capri, Hamilton, Boluva and Solar.

This wonderful restored Helbros is cased in it's ORIGINAL Helbros case and we are also including an ORIGINAL case with the famous War Bonds insert. There were THREE different boxes. they look and are the same in every aspect excepting the interior cushion and cloth. One can identify the Helbros WWII Chronograph production company by the interior finish of the case. We are restoring an earlier production with a box that is identical excepting the interior finish. As far as collecting and value, there is no difference when we figure the selling price that we are offering these for. The RETAIL value is well into the several thousand dollars.

Quick as a Flash was a 30-minute radio quiz program which featured drama segments with guest actors from radio detective shows.

Created by director Richard Lewis and emcee Ken Roberts, the program debuted over the Mutual Network on Sunday, July 16, 1944. Sponsored by the Helbros Watch Company, the show was produced by Lewis and Bernard J. Prockter with scripts by Gene Wang. Music was by Ray Bloch and the Helbros Orchestra.Six contestants from the studio audience competed for cash and other prizes. Clues were presented in the form of dramatic sketches covering such subjects as current events, movies, books and historical situations. With a buzzer, a contestant could interrupt at any time to submit an answer.
