The organization of the Imperial Camel Brigade, 1916-1918.
The 1st Brigade, Imperial Camel Corps--more commonly known as the Imperial Camel Brigade--was raised on 13 December 1916 under the command of Brigadier General Clement Leslie Smith VC MC (17 January 1878-14 December 1927) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. VC MC (1). The Brigade concentrated at Mazar on the north coast of the Sinai Peninsula northeastern Egypt. Located between the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba at the northern end of the Red Sea. On 19 December; and on the following day advanced to El Arish where it was attached to the The Anzac Mounted Division was a mounted infantry (light horse) division formed in March 1916 in Egypt during World War I following the Battle of Gallipoli when the Australian and New Zealand mounted regiments returned from fighting as infantry. .
The Battle of Magdhaba took place near the tiny Egyptian outpost of Magdhaba in the Sinai desert, some 22 miles from El Arish on the Mediterranean coast. In late 1916 the Turkish forces in the Sinai that had been menacing the British-controlled Suez Canal had retreated to the on 23 December 1916--only four days after being concentrated and l0 days after being raised.
Raising of Independent Camel Companies--1916
The main combat elements of the Brigade--the Camel Battalions--were formed from the independent Camel Companies that had been raised from January 1916 onwards to combat the pro-Turkish Senussi tribesmen who were threatening the Nile Valley from the Libyan Desert, northeast part of the Sahara Desert, NE Africa, in SW Egypt, E Libya, and NW Sudan; called the Western Desert in Egypt. It is a region of sand dunes, stony plains, and rocky plateaus. .
The Imperial Camel Corps was a brigade-sized military formation which fought for the Allies in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign in World War I. Its personnel were infantry mounted on camels for movement across desert.
The first four Camel Companies, filled by Australian infantrymen from the First and Second Divisions, Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was the name given to two all-volunteer Australian Army forces dispatched to fight overseas during World War I and World War II.

BAM BAM BAM
THIS WAS A GREAT FIND
GSW INVESTED IN AN ESTATE CONTAINING WATCHES AND WATCH PARTS FROM AUSTRALIA ABOUT A YEAR AGO
IN THAT LOT, THERE WAS THIS STRANGE VINTAGE NOS WATCH
IT SPORTED A CAMEL ON A NOS DIAL
IT HAD AN AWESOME NOS COPPER DIAL CONTAINMENT, RING
NOS GOLD HANDS
AND NOS RED SECONDS
THE DIAL WAS CRAZY!
BUT MORE INTRIGUING WAS THE CAMEL ON THE DIAL AND ONE THE CASE BACK--WHEN WE QUESTIONED THE SELLER WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE WATCH WAS A 1945 COMMEMORATIVE TO THE FAMOUS CAMEL BRIGADE AND, IN PARTICULAR, IT'S AUSTRALIAN MEMBERS .

THE VINTAGE NOS CASE WAS A TWO PIECE
WITH PRESSED CRYSTAL & BEZEL
THE INTERIOR OF THE CASE WAS DETAILED
THE STAINLESS STEEL CASE BACK
IS IN FACT THE ACTUAL CASE
AND SPORTED THE SIGNATURE
BREVETE
CAMEL
WITH A CAMEL JUST LIKE THE DIAL
THE MOVEMENT WITHIN WAS A 1945 17 JEWEL AS 1220/21
WITH THE BREVETE SIGNATURE
[BREVETE MEANS PATENT]
AS 1220
signature; shock device
ca. 1945: Swiss, 17 Jewels

AFTER DISASSEMBLY, WE REALIZED THAT
THE MOVEMENT HAD RUST DAMAGE
WE THEN SEARCHED FOR PARTS THAT WERE NOT AVAILABLE
NEARLY A YEAR AND 4 MOVEMENTS PASSED
THE PROBLEMS WAS THAT SEVERAL WHEELS NEED TO BE REPLACED
THEY WERE NOT WHEELS THAT NORMALLY WEAR.
WE THEN CAME ACROSS A 21 JEWEL SPECIAL
EDITION AS 1220/21, IT WAS NOT RUNNING, SO WE COMBINED THE 17 AND THE 21 JEWELS PARTS
NEW OLD STOCK BRASS ALLOY
AND COPPER ALLOY WHEELS
PARTS AND PARTS AND MORE PARTS
AND MORE NEW JEWELS!
WE ADDED A NEW STEEL MAIN SPRING
WE DITCHED THE BALANCE & HAIR SPRING
FOR A NEW OLD INCABLOC COMPLETE BALANCE ASSEMBLY
THE NEW AS 122O/21 WITH NEW PARTS AND COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED
WE LIGHTLY BUFFED THE SOLID CASE
INSTALLED THE DIAL
AND NEW CRYSTAL

WE THEN PRESSED THE CASE INTO
THE BEZEL/LUG ASSEMBLY
AND USED THE ORIGINAL TO THE CASE
HEAVY DUTY MILITARY SPRING BARS
